I have a Victor Cine Model 3 movie camera with the original case. I would like to sell this camera if anyone is interested.
I also am looking for information about how old this model is. I think it is from the 1930's but have not been able to confirm this.
I am not sure of the value of this item and would be interested if anyone has any information about that.
Thanks!

The Victor cine 16mm cameras were introduced in 1923 and were made by the Victor Animatograph Company of Davenport, IA.
Your Model 3 was made starting in the late 1920s thru the early 1940s according to McKeown's Camera Price Guide. It uses 100' spool film and is equipped with a Newton finder and reflex critical focus eye-piece. The camera is powered with a spring wind-up motor and has a Velostigmat f/3.5 fixed focus lens. The camera came in two versions: Single lens (Model 3), or triple-lens turret (Models 4 & 5).
Collectors value: $40-$60 w/single lens. $100-$150 w/triple turret lenses.

The Victor 3 was actually Victor's fourth camera model, introduced in 1927 as a single lens camera. The 3-lens turret version appeared briefly in 1928 and 1929, but was replaced by the Model 5 in 1930, when the Model 3 reverted to single lens only. Single lens Model 3's are fairly common; the 3T is rare. Condition is always a major part of the value of any collectible camera, but the lens has more to do with this camera's value than any other factor. The body alone has little value in most cases. McKeown prices include at least one normal lens, but some lenses by specific makers can boost value substantially. You will find the serial number on the machined flange on the body around the crank shaft on early examples. A few later ones have the number behind the strap, while most have the number stamped on the nameplate on the side of the camera. I would be interested in your camera if the serial number is below 1226.

To luvantique: Are you a large collector of movie cameras and do you have a lot of them? I notice that you have good knowledge about them. I have a few but I'm not a big collector of them.

Yes, Ken, I collect movie cameras; particularly early US-made 16mm. I have Kodak and Victor prototypes and a very nearly complete collection of American 16mm cameras from 1923 to about 1935, though there are a few elusive holes to fill. I'm working on a book on the early history of the 16mm format, and have about 20 years of research under my belt.

That explains a lot!! I understand what you mean about the research you do. I have to do a lot myself. Some items have a lot of info about them while others have seem to have very little. Thanks for answering any questions on this board. -KR

I see what you mean. Brunetnancy100 echos my post with a debt consolidation ad in very fine print at the bottom.

Too bad I can smite only once. If it would help, I would smack her for all 10 posts (and she seems to be hard at work putting more up).

To iuvantique I have a Victor Cine Model 3 16mm silent movie projector. It does work, but a wire is loose at the base and will spark once in a while. The bulb works and has a spare bulb. The original purchase papers record that it was bought in April of 1930 for $255.00. I also have a 16mm Felix the Cat reel called Felix The Hero. I am looking to sell it, but ebay is no help. I am looking for circles that would be interested. It is a unique piece of history, and I don't want to see it junked, but I really can't hold onto it much longer either. Can you help me find a buyer? My email is lkaragines (at) gmail (dot) com
